It is often remarked that Miss Hogg’s longtime staff at Bayou Bend—Jane, Gertrude, Lucius, and your grandmother Velma—were almost like family to her. Is that how they saw it? Oh, yes! When important guests came to lunch or dinner, she always brought them back to the kitchen to thank the staff.   9. Shahzia Sikander: Extraordinary Realities

    Born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1969, Sikander was an artist in the Core Residency Program at the MFAH Glassell School of Art from 1995 to 1997. Paintings, drawings, and video animations show how the Pakistani American artist explores contemporary issues by transforming and subverting South and Central Asian illustrated manuscript painting.     Picasso Black and White, the first major exhibition to focus on the artist’s lifelong exploration of a black-and-white palette throughout his career, features paintings, sculptures, and works on paper from 1904 to 1970. Picasso Black and White demonstrates how the artist was continuously investigating, inventing, and drawing in austere monochromatic tones throughout his career.
