The Man Who Paints Water Drops (Mulbang-ul-eul geulineun namja)
One of the most recognized artists in Korea, Kim Tschang-yeul (1929–2021) was known for his abstract paintings of water droplets. Generous support has been provided by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston. Community partner: Korean American Society of Houston (KASH) The documentary also illuminates Tschang-yeul’s lifetime obsession with painting water drops—the symbol of a certain serenity that will gradually reveal a tragic origin, anchored in the history of Korea.

Jan 9, 2018 - Our first and most recent acquisitions are both included. What do you want visitors to take away? LS: This is an esoteric corner of collecting. Little known, little objects. The way we’ve collected is that it has to speak to us, and then we measure it up against other pieces in our collection. What do you feel when you reflect on the Amitabha Buddha? LS: It’s very approachable. LS: Well, that’s a little bit like asking us to choose our favorite child! The Amitabha Buddha (above), which is the first piece we bought, has always managed to withstand competition from anything new in the collection.

"We’re mounting [the exhibition] as if it were a big bulletin board in our office. The photos are not matted and framed or anything, they’re just being stuck up on the board. Here, in the third and final excerpt of our conversation, Tucker shares her personal anecdotes behind this age-old visual communication tradition: "[The objects in] Snail Mail [are from] people who take an original photograph
