    Rienzi, the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts, presents special exhibitions that are included with general admission. During August, Rienzi is closed. They marketed a modern, aspirational lifestyle to women while promoting prepared foods and myriad new appliances celebrated for their convenience and efficiency.

    Celebrated for her recasting of African and feminist stereotypes, Wangechi Mutu draws freely upon the history of Western art and her native Kenyan culture. “My videos provide a way for me to enact, represent, what I value about women through rehearsed movement, I guess,” Mutu has said. “I’m aware that when I’m making collages and my drawings I’m fabricating, I’m concocting.

  9. MFAH Presents Latin American Constructive Art from Its Renowned Collection, on View Beginning September 15

    Sep 12, 2012 - The International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA) was established with the Latin American Art Department. The phased, multi-year launch began with 2,500 documents from Argentina, Mexico and the American Midwest, capping the 10th-anniversary year for the Latin American program at the MFAH. The online archive is available worldwide, free of charge at www.icaadocs.mfah.org and is intended as a catalyst for the future of a field that has been notoriously lacking in accessible resources.
