Oct 15, 2019 - Tuesdays, though, are reserved for seminar meetings, where all come together to prepare for visiting speakers and artists, and to discuss topics of shared interest. The term runs September to May and is renewable for a second year—much longer than most residencies. It allows them to really settle in and become part of the community. Describe a typical day for a Core resident. I’m not sure there’s any such thing as a typical day! Most keep an incredibly active schedule with travel, teaching, and exhibition opportunities.

Jun 1, 2016 - This is in sharp contrast to other Romanian New Wave films, which are for the most part obstinately low-fi and often trying to capture the gritty realism of contemporary life. I really made an effort; I even went to the sales agent to beg for one! I was excited to see that it was programmed at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York a few months later, so I finally got to see it. For one thing Aferim! is a period piece, while most of the Romanian New Wave films are contemporary reflections on society. It’s also highly aestheticized, shot on 35mm black-and-white stock in widescreen.

I find this practice good in a place like the MFAH, because you have all types of people that come through looking for all different things—some expecting a traditional meal, and others looking for an upscale or unique experience The regular menu is great, but it’s also a lot of fun for me—and the customers too, I think—to try something new every week. Also, I love the brunch. I personally am not a brunch eater, but I love to serve it!

About the SpeakerRosemary Crill was senior curator for South Asia at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London until her retirement in 2016. This exhibition brings the extraordinary Parpia Collection to Houston audiences for the first time. The Parpia Collection reflects India’s myriad regional traditions. Her books include Chintz: Indian Textiles for the West, The Fabric of India, Indian Embroidery, Indian Ikat Textiles, and Marwar Painting: A History of the Jodhpur Style.
