    October 19, 2023 Learn more about the works of art at Rienzi, the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts.  This month, Trevor Boyd, associate conservator of objects and sculpture, discusses the rare 18th-century Hall Chair designed for Chiswick House in London by English architect and artist William Kent. Education programs at Rienzi receive generous funding from the Sterling-Turner Foundation; Alkek and Williams Foundation; Carroll Sterling and Harris Masterson III Endowment; and the Caroline Wiess Law Endowment for Rienzi.

    Jun 4, 2012 - More than 50 years after Abrams purchased his first drawing, it’s clear to see he doesn’t regret it for a minute. He encouraged the budding collectors in Art + Paper by letting them know that even they can buy great drawings. “Maybe not Rembrandt, but ones that move you.” For Abrams, one of the great things about drawings is that they are often more spontaneous than paintings and reflect the thinking of the artist at a particular moment or time.

  6. Celebrating Community: Women’s Empowerment Group Visits the MFAH

    May 13, 2020 - Art plays an important role in trauma recovery, and the connection with the MFAH is a positive presence in the lives of our refugee community. What were some highlights of the visit? Then our docent, Vehista Kaikobad, fascinated the group with anecdotes about the art we saw along the way in the Beck Building galleries. Artist Mary Cassatt was particularly interesting for the group. Refugee women can lack the confidence to visit public institutions alone, especially when they haven’t yet mastered English.
