    Võ Đức Quang is a bilingual Vietnamese-American artist and the executive director of Public Poetry, a nonprofit organization that supports established and emerging poets in the literary community. Nihal Osama is a Sudanese-American writer and educator whose work centers on themes of identity, displacement, and tradition. A dedicated advocate for the literary arts community, he serves as the board president of Public Poetry and previously served as the director of the American Root Reading Series.

    His rule also witnessed a resurgence in contacts with east Asia under Ming dynasty emperor Yongle (reigned 1402–24), exchanges that brought a new wave of contemporary objects from China to the “western lands.” Roxburgh has co-curated exhibitions including Traces of the Calligrapher: Islamic Calligraphy in Practice, c. 1600–1900 at the MFAH and Turks: A Journey of a Thousand Years at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Following Timur’s death in 1405, his son and successor, Shahrukh (reigned 1409–47), established Herat as the capital and embarked on a program of redevelopment.

  8. Celebrating Community: Women’s Empowerment Group Visits the MFAH

    May 13, 2020 - We ended the day with Picasso’s Woman with a Large Hat and Two Women in Front of a Window. This tour was the first time many of the women had the chance to see such internationally renowned art. Visiting the MFAH as a group builds the women’s confidence and puts the Museum in their comfort zone. While viewing Susan Comforting the Baby, they learned how Cassatt fought gender inequality to pursue painting professionally in a male-dominated society.
