    Inverted Utopias is the first exhibition in the United States devoted to the brilliant, innovative contributions of Latin American artists to the phenomenon that became the 20th-century avant-garde.The exhibition spans the decades 1920 to 1970, bringing together more than 200 works by 67 artists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The second period—the decades 1950 to 1970—witnessed the expansion of avant-garde activities throughout the region as well as the autonomy from contemporary developments in Europe and the United States.

  9. Color, Scent, and Memory: Rienzi’s Gardens 1954–1999

    Rienzi opened to the public in 1999, and ever since, the gardens have provided Houston the opportunity to witness a living collection of plants, flowers, trees, and sensory moments. The original owners of Rienzi—Carroll Sterling Masterson and Harris Masterson III—worked with their friend, landscape architect Ralph Ellis Gunn, to create the design. The gardens showcase the beauty of flowers, foliage, and sculptural forms on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, utilizing the natural ravines and towering trees to create a sense of dynamism and grandeur.

  10. Garden Paradise: The Magnificent Safavid Carpet from the Burrell Collection, Glasgow

    The presentation comes to Houston following its debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore a central topic of Islamic art and culture within the context of a one-of-a-kind masterwork.
