Celebrating Community: Women’s Empowerment Group Visits the MFAH
May 13, 2020 - Art plays an important role in trauma recovery, and the connection with the MFAH is a positive presence in the lives of our refugee community. What were some highlights of the visit? Refugee women can lack the confidence to visit public institutions alone, especially when they haven’t yet mastered English. We have over 40 refugee women in our group and most need help with transport, so our amazing volunteer team drove the women and their children to the Museum. Everyone was buzzing with excitement.

Dec 12, 2024 - “The Museum had only a handful of British drawings before this initiative began and the Stuart Collection has now become a hallmark at our institution. Its cornerstone is Constable’s A View on the Banks of the River Stour (1809-16), an oil sketch that showcases the artist’s mastery at capturing fleeting atmospheric effects as he sketched in open air.

Reinstallation of MFAH Galleries for European Art
Jun 6, 2022 - “Following on the reinstallation of our American galleries, in 2020, we have similarly rethought the display of our European collections to more fully express the history, culture, and faith in which these works were originally Dated 1578, the piece was discovered in 2020 in an online regional auction by a U.K. art dealer. It is believed to be the only artwork still in existence bearing de Court’s signature. “This new, interdisciplinary presentation furthers a new approach to our collections,” commented MFAH director Gary Tinterow.
