Bird

Bird is a striking coming-of-age tale that hides its magic in plain sight. Big Kid Flicks
A holiday season favorite at the MFAH, Kid Flicks is a compilation of fun, artful, inspired, and thought-provoking short film compilations presented in partnership with New York International Children’s Film Festival. Seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. These screenings take place in Brown Auditorium Theater on the lower level of the Law Building. These award-winning short films offer a chance to explore new frontiers from around the world, across the street, and the ever-expanding boundaries of our own perspectives. Big Kid Flicks is designed for ages 8 and up.

Premiere Baba Hillman’s lyrical essay film draws upon the writings of Sufi mystic, poet, and philosopher Ibn ‘Arabī, and is a poetic exploration of a near-death and mystical experience in the mountains north of Malaga, Spain. She has also worked as a performer and choreographer, and taught film and performance in Canada, France, Italy, and the United States. Claudia Cardinale plays a beautiful young woman who becomes engaged to the prince’s nephew (Alain Delon). Pfeiffer also produced and distributed films in Jamaica and the United States, including a longstanding collaboration with Alan Rudolph. Early in her career she became Claudia Cardinale’s assistant in Italy, later working for Alain Delon and Omar Sharif before establishing a public relations company in London.

In the Studio: Craft in Postwar America, 1950–1970
The result was the birth of a new field: Studio Craft, which embraced both functional and sculptural forms. In the Studio showcases the early decades of the field when artists championed a revival of traditional skills. The objects are complemented by a selection of ephemera and catalogues from the Museum’s Hirsch Library, emphasizing the professionalization of the field. Providing a snapshot of craft across America, the works of art in this exhibition are made by many of the masters who established new aesthetics and methods of creating in their respective mediums.
