  5. Artist Talk | Narsiso Martinez

    Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Martinez creates drawings, paintings, and multi-media installations that celebrate the vital and often overlooked labor performed by farmworkers in the United States. Pulling from influences as diverse as 1930s social realism and street art, Martinez combines charcoal, gouache, gold leaf, and collage to produce portraits of industrious field workers layered atop cardboard produce boxes.

    His short films have been screened at film festivals such as Oaxaca Film Festival and Esto es Para Esto. He holds a BFA in painting and drawing with a minor in art history from Pratt Institute in New York and an MFA in experimental animation from California Institute of the Arts.

    In October 2024, she opened the exhibit Celebrity in Print at the Art Museums at Colonial Williamsburg which explores how the 18th century English market for portrait prints played a role in the genesis of our modern concept of McKinney was also the co-curator of the exhibit Promoting America: Maps of the Colonies and the New Republic and is currently co-curating an exhibit on Colonial Williamsburg’s centennial that will open in 2026. These new arrangements are based on the works of art and inspired by Louise Fisher’s iconic 20th-century floral designs.

  10. Rediscovered Diego Rivera Painting Acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

    Mar 11, 2022 - Latin American and Latino art. Rivera had gone to the region of Tehuantepec, near Oaxaca, Mexico, in 1923, and there discovered the vibrant, indigenous culture of Mexico, with its traditions passed down by women through generations. The MFAH collections include in-depth holdings of Pre-Columbian and African gold, American art, European paintings, and distinguished international collections of modern and contemporary art.
