About the Library
The Hirsch Library is a comprehensive art research library that serves Museum staff, external scholars, college and university students, and the general public. The spacious reading room provides free public access to more than 200,000 books, periodicals, auction catalogs, vertical files, and special collections materials that date from the 15th century to the present.

Information Services
Information services are offered for free inside Hirsch Library Wednesday through Saturday, with phone and email service on Monday and Tuesday. Librarians can help you locate research materials from the online catalog, print detailed reports of objects in the MFAH collections, and provide individual instruction and reference assistance for all your visual-arts research questions.
