Latin Maecenas

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, invites you to join the Latin Maecenas. Established in 2002, this group supports the Museum’s renowned Latin American art department and the International Center for the Arts of the Americas. Members learn about the exciting field of Latin American and Latino art through visiting artist lectures and seminars with experts in the field, and with visits to some of the most prominent private collections in Houston and abroad. In addition, patrons have the opportunity to interact with important Latin American and Latino artists, to travel internationally with curators from the Latin American art department, and to learn how to recognize valuable opportunities in this rapidly expanding market.

Funds raised by the group provide support for the purchase of the finest works of historic and contemporary art from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the United States for the Museum’s permanent collection.

Past program highlights include:

  • Exclusive Latin Maecenas trip to Madrid during opening week of the 44th edition of ARCOmadrid, in March of 2025
  • Reception and private exhibition tour of Navigating the Waves: Contemporary Cuban Photography with MFAH curators Malcolm Daniel and Raquel Carrera
  • Exclusive Latin Maecenas trip to the 2024 Venice Biennale during the vernissage week
  • Artist talk with Latino artist Narsiso Martinez, followed by a reception at a collector’s home
