About MFAH Archives
Established in 1984, the MFAH Archives preserves and makes available for research the Museum's permanent records. Primary source materials chronicle not only the history of the MFAH, but also the artistic and cultural development of Houston. The institutional records of the MFAH date from 1900, when the Museum was founded, and include exhibition files, installation photographs, conservation reports, program files, and correspondence. The Archives is open to all researchers, subject to reasonable restrictions based upon the physical conditions of materials, security, and confidentiality.

The MFAH Archives serves as the official repository for the Texas Art Project, an effort to recover manuscript and photographic collections of artists, art galleries, and art organizations active in Texas from 1875 to the mid-1980s.
