In this interactive program, local writers perform their own works in response to special exhibitions and the MFAH art collections.
Experience the MFAH like never before—through the power of the written word. Local writers bring art to life by performing original works in the galleries.
Between the 1940s and the 1990s, collector Heinz Berggruen amassed hundreds of modern masterworks, many of them directly from the artists. As a dealer, he became his own best client, forming a singular collection guided by his tastes and affinities. Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen presents more than 95 of the works—paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures—on loan from the Museum Berggruen in Berlin. The exhibition combines rich focal areas, including still life, portraits, the human figure, and landscapes, with in-depth presentations devoted to individual artists.

About the Speakers
Aris Kian Brown has an MFA from the University of Houston where she was an Inprint C. Glenn Cambor Fellow. As an enthusiast and student of abolition, her work centers around the landscape and emotional-political climate of her home city. She previously served as the Houston Poet Laureate 2023-2025 and ranked #2 in the 2023 Womxn of the World Poetry Slam. She has ranked highly in multiple poetry slams, is a current member of Smoke Slam, and has received numerous fellowships and awards including the Ruth Lilly-Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship, the BIPOC Artist and Network Fund Award, and the Inprint Marion Barthelme Prize, among others.
Cloud Delfina Cardona is an artist, writer, and designer from San Antonio. She is the author of What Remains, winner of the 2020 Host Publications Chapbook Prize, and recipient of the Naomi Shihab Nye First Book of Poetry Award for the past is a jean jacket. Cardona’s poetry can be found in The Offing, Prairie Schooner, The Boiler, and The Los Angeles Review. She is the co-founder of Infrarrealista Review, works as an associate for Letras Latinas, and moonlights as DJ Mexistentialism.
Victor Gonzalez is an aspiring English teacher and hobbyist writer whose childhood enjoyment of comics, video games, and TV influenced his reach into creativity and storytelling. He frequently visits museums, attends performances, and participates in tabletop roleplay games when he is not working toward his BA in education at Lone Star College.
Daniela Paz is currently working toward an associate of arts in teaching at Lone Star College. At the urging of her mentor, Tony Diaz, she joined Nuestra Palabra this year, and is excited to learn and work alongside her peers.
