This lecture highlights several recent acquisitions in the Asian art department that have been selected for their artistic significance, historical importance, and relevance to the MFAH collections. Through these objects, curator Bradley Bailey explains the various ways that works enter the Museum—whether through purchase, gift, bequest, or discovery—while also outlining the internal review, research, and approval processes involved.
The program also addresses how curators determine when and how new works are displayed, offering insight into the behind-the-scenes work that shapes the galleries.
