The MFAH presents an evening of vinyl inspired by American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection with guest DJ Ichikara Valdez. Exploring the evolution of American Southern music during a period of profound cultural and musical change, the playlist traces the shifting sounds of genres such as blues, country, gospel, and rock, highlighting how these genres developed, intersected, and shaped expressions of place, identity, and modernity.

About the Performer
Ichikara Valdez is a Houston-based artist, musician, curator, DJ, and producer whose work draws from diverse international and cultural influences. A lifelong record collector, his sound is rooted in soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, and global grooves. He is the lead vocalist, artistic director, and producer of Hasaan Olu, a Houston-based fusion project.
