Discover the beauty and power of the spoken word. This evening of high-energy poetry and heart sees 12 finalists competing for a coveted spot on the Meta4 Houston Poetry Slam Team and a $1,000 fellowship. These poets, previously selected by Writers in the Schools (WITS), vie for the opportunity to represent Houston at Brave New Voices in California this July as official youth poet ambassadors.
For over 40 years, WITS has helped young people unlock the joy and power of storytelling and creative expression by connecting them with professional writers and spoken-word artists. WITS is the home of Meta4, Houston's premier youth slam poetry team. In 2025, Meta4 placed third in the nation, having previously won the national championship in 2023 and 2024. The Final 12, formerly known as the Grand Slam, marks the fifth time this milestone poetry event has been held at the MFAH. Arrive early to grab a good seat and be part of this powerful night.
