Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema: A Centennial

August 24–September 23, 2018

No name is more synonymous with the post-WWII explosion of international art-house cinema than Ingmar Bergman (1918–2007), a master storyteller who startled the world with his stark intensity and exploration of profound spiritual questions. Over a career that spanned six decades, Bergman directed dozens of films in an astonishing array of tones, from light yet complex comedies, to groundbreaking formal experiments, and excruciatingly intimate portraits of family relationships. This series commemorates the 100th anniversary of the legendary filmmaker’s birth. The tribute also features screenings at Rice Cinema September 7–9.
