Imam Khalis Rashaad discusses the beautiful art of Qur’anic recitation and reads from the Qur’anic works on display. The word “Qur’an” comes from the Arabic word meaning “recite.” The Qur’an is a written text and an oral tradition that is activated through recitation, which plays a central role in Muslim prayer and worship.

This program is part of a series accompanying the installation Sea of Ink, Forest of Pens: The Art of the Qurʾan, on view in the Hossein Afshar Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds.
