About the Speakers
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is a Mexican-Canadian artist who creates platforms for public participation by using robotic lights, digital fountains, computerized surveillance, and telematic networks. Inspired by phantasmagoria, carnivals, and animatronics, his interactive works are “anti-monuments for people to self-represent.”
Lozano-Hemmer was the first artist to represent Mexico at the 2007 Venice Biennale. His large-scale participatory installations have been commissioned for events such as the Millennium Celebrations in Mexico City, the UN World Summit in Lyon, and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The artist's works are held in collections at MoMA, Guggenheim, TATE, Reina Sofía, and the Hirshhorn, and he has recently exhibited in Montreal, San Francisco, Abu Dhabi, and New York.
