This fascinating documentary about jazz patron Baroness Pannonica Rothschild reveals an intriguingly complex figure. A member of the famous Jewish banking family, she began a lifelong obsession with New York’s jazz scene in the 1950s and developed a passionate friendship with pianist Thelonious Monk. She ended up in the tabloids when saxophonist Charlie Parker died at her apartment, and she long remained a mystery. Helen Mirren provides Rothschild’s voice in interview and diary excerpts.
