Artist Gordon Hall speaks about their work, which encompasses sculpture, performance, and writing. Hall’s sculptures emerge from the world of furniture and are often activated by performing bodies who test out possible uses for these ambiguously functional objects.

About the Artist
Gordon Hall has had solo presentations at the Kitchen, MIT List Visual Arts Center, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, the Renaissance Society, EMPAC, and Temple Contemporary, and has been in group exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Hessel Museum, Art in General, White Columns, and Socrates Sculpture Park, among others. Since 2011, Hall has also directed the Center for Experimental Lectures, an itinerant performance series that engages with the lecture as a creative form. Co-organized with Zoey Lubitz since 2016, the Center for Experimental Lectures has commissioned new lectures from a wide variety of artists and thinkers at venues including Recess, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, Storm King, BAM, Artists Space, RISD Museum, Kunsthaus Glarus, Kunstalle Wein, and Kunstalle Kevin Space. Hall is represented by DOCUMENT in North America and Hua International in Europe and Asia and is assistant professor of art at Vassar College.
