The MFAH is offering guided tours in Spanish throughout the exhibition of Frida: The Making of an Icon. Sessions focus on a particular theme and rely on the expertise of community members to reflect and share. All ages welcomed. Tours are conducted completely in Spanish. Secure your place with advance ticket registration.
- February 1 – Cindy Peña, assistant curator, Latin American & Latino Art, MFAH
- February 8 – Lizbeth Ortiz, founder of Frida Festival, focusing on Frida’s legacy
- March 8 – Tina Hernandez, local artist focusing on women’s health and community care
- April 5 – Icess Fernandez Rojas, local writer focusing on Frida’s letter writing and journaling
- May 3 – Cindy Laguna, owner of Todo Fresh, focusing on textiles/fabrics from Southwest Mexico
- May 10 – Cindy Peña, assistant curator, Latin American & Latino Art, MFAH

Tina Hernandez received her BFA in photography/digital media from the University of Houston. She explores her Mexican heritage through a Chicana lens with research, prop-making, photography, and appropriation to synthesize cultural ideas into new visual connections that help empower the artist and her audience. She is a current student at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work.
Cindy Lagunas is the Founder of Todo Fresh, a textile project rooted in cultural preservation, ethical commerce, and deep respect for Mexican Artisans. Todo Fresh personally meets and builds relationships with artisan families from Indigenous communities to establish fair compensations, full transparency, and proper credit. By doing so, it connects artisans with a new market while also educating consumers about the cultural importance of products they buy and the importance of paying fair prices.
Cindy Peña is assistant curator of Latin American & Latino art at the MFAH.
Lizbeth Ortiz founded Frida Festival in 2005 with a community of Houston artists. In 2008 she was honored as the official artist for the Latin Grammys, and her painting is part of the Recording Academy Grammy Museum’s collection in LA. Ortiz is also co-founder of MuXer HTX, a female collective that provides platforms for artistic expression.
Icess Fernandez Rojas is an educator, writer, and former journalist. Her work has been published internationally in Queen Mobs Lit Journal, Poetry 24, and the Feminine Collective anthology Notes from Humanity. Her nonfiction and memoir pieces have appeared in HuffPost and The Guardian, among others.
El MFAH ofrece visitas guiadas en español a lo largo de la exposición Frida: La creación de un ícono. Cada sesión se centrará en un tema específico con la participación de expertos en la comunidad para reflexionar y compartir. Para todas las edades. Tina Hernandez obtuvo su licenciatura (BFA) en fotografía y medios digitales en la University of Houston. Explora su herencia mexicana desde el punto de vista de la cultura chicana. Combinando investigación, creación de utilería, fotografía y apropiación artística, Tina transforma ideas culturales en nuevas conexiones visuales que empoderan tanto a la artista como a su público. Actualmente cursa estudios en el Graduate College of Social Work de la misma universidad.
Cindy Lagunas es fundadora de Todo Fresh, un proyecto textil enfocado en la preservación cultural, el comercio ético y el profundo respeto por artesanos mexicanos. A través de relaciones directas con familias artesanas de comunidades indígenas, promueve pagos justos, transparencia total y el reconocimiento adecuado de su trabajo. Además de conectar a artesanos con nuevos mercados, también educa a consumidores sobre la importancia cultural de lo que compran y la importancia de pagar precios justos.
Cindy Peña es curadora asistente de arte latinoamericano y latino en el MFAH.
Lizbeth Ortiz fundó Frida Festival en 2005 junto a una comunidad de artistas en Houston. En 2008 fue reconocida como artista oficial de los Latin Grammys, y una de sus pinturas forma parte de la colección del Grammy Museum de la Recording Academy en Los Ángeles. Icess Fernandez Rojas es educadora, escritora y ex periodista.
