Meet one of the most important rock ’n’ roll bands you’ve probably never heard of: Fanny.

Embraced by members of rock royalty like David Bowie, Fanny released five acclaimed albums with Top 40 songs but never broke through. Fanny: The Right to Rock explores the fascinating story of this teen garage band of Filipina Americans from 1960s Sacramento that morphed into a ferocious rock group. Fanny almost became the “female Beatles,” but a perfect storm of sexism, homophobia, and anti-immigrant sentiment stood in the way.
