LATE FRIDAYS: MUSIC IN THE GALLERIES
Music and the visual arts harmonize at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

A multisensory experience, this concert features an activation of Harry Bertoia’s sound sculptures in the exhibition Harry Bertoia: Echoes in Space, followed by a brief commentary on the artist and his interest in the relationship between form and sound by Elizabeth Essner, Windgate Foundation Associate Curator of Craft.

Directly before the performance, DACAMERA Young Artist composer Emma Kent Wine describes her process of composing jazz music in response to Bertoia’s sculpture. Wine’s new composition and several jazz pieces are performed by Young Artists Chloe de Souza (vocals), and Adam W. Sadberry (flute); Young Artists alumni Isaac Foreman (piano) and Brooke Wyatt (piano); and guest artists Michael Cheng (percussion), Corey Dozier (bass), and Mark Simmons Jr. (drums).

The DACAMERA Young Artists program is a fellowship for emerging professional instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers. It encourages musicians to develop the skills they need to become passionate, forward-thinking, community-focused 'citizen artists' who reimagine the traditional notions of making music while contributing to society through their art and social engagement.
