This year, the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As the nation considers its past and imagines its future, art offers meaningful perspectives into moments in time.
With America 250 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the MFAH highlights American artistic achievements in its permanent collection. About the Speakers
Chelsea Dacus is the associate curator of The Glassell Collections and Indigenous Arts of Africa, Pacific Islands, Australia, and the Americas as well as associate curator of antiquities at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Elizabeth Essner is the Windgate Foundation Associate Curator of Craft at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she oversees the museum’s modern and contemporary craft collection. She co-curated The Jewelry of Dorothea Prühl and Going Underground: The Jewels of Bernhard Schobinger, the first major U.S. museum presentations for both artists. She is currently at work on a retrospective of the Japanese American fiber artist Kay Sekimachi.
