This year, the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As the nation considers its past and imagines its future, art offers meaningful perspectives into moments in time.
With America 250 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the MFAH highlights American artistic achievements in its permanent collection. About the Speakers
Mari Carmen Ramírez is the Wortham Curator of Latin American Art and director of the International Center for Arts of the Americas at the MFAH.
Lisa Volpe is the curator of photography at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In addition, she oversees the Anne Tucker and Clint Willour Young Photographers Endowment. Volpe earned her MA at Case Western Reserve University and her PhD at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Previously, she held various curatorial roles at the Wichita Art Museum and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, as well as fellowships at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
