Experience the irrepressible spirit and fun of klezmer music in the Museum galleries. Klezmer is a vibrant, instrumental folk music tradition of Ashkenazi Jews from Central and Eastern Europe. The Best Little Klezmer Band in Texas celebrates this musical tradition and works of ritual Jewish art from these communities, on view in the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Gallery for Judaica.
About the Performers
The Best Little Klezmer Band in Texas infuses its performances of Jewish folk songs and traditional wedding dances, haunting lyrical melodies of East European Jews, fiery virtuosic Gypsy showpieces, and dazzling theater music with an electrifying world beat. The ensemble carries klezmer’s itinerant, idea-gathering spirit with them to bear on their music, which can be raucous, hypnotic, reverent, and dizzying, sometimes all in one quick-changing piece.

This program is part of the MFAH World Faiths Initiative, which seeks to highlight themes of faith, religion, and spirituality in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Focusing on the many expressions of faith in these collections, the initiative honors the diverse communities of Houston and inspires connections among cultures and beliefs.
