Explore a variety of entertaining art and history topics with Bayou Bend. Once a month, the MFAH house museum for American decorative arts hosts a virtual, half-hour lunchtime presentation featuring curators, librarians, educators, and guest contributors.

September 18, 2026 | Punch in Early America
  • Punch was a favored beverage for convivial gatherings in the 18th century, especially in private social clubs like the Tuesday Club of Annapolis. This presentation explores the historical importance of the beverage and includes a discussion of early American drinking culture and the objects used.
October 9, 2026 | Mythical Designs
  • Sphinxes, griffins, and sea monsters were not just characters of legend in the 18th and 19th centuries. They also served as design inspiration for furniture, silver, ironwork, and interior decor. Learn more about the mythical creatures found in rare design books from Bayou Bend's Kitty King Powell Library.
