The Unknown Country
Coping with the loss of her grandmother, Tana (Lily Gladstone, who also stars in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film Killers of the Flower Moon) finds a mysterious photograph of her relative in a beautiful dress, in an unfamiliar landscape. Invited to a cousin’s wedding, Tana sets out in her grandmother’s Cadillac, driving from Minneapolis to Spearfish, South Dakota.
Reunited with her Oglala Lakota family, Tana is strengthened by their warmth and finds a newfound feeling of connection. Her continuing travels lead her to Big Bend in Texas, as fiction and nonfiction combine into a lyrical road trip that becomes a woman’s journey of discovery.
