Filmmaker Matías Bize in attendance.

After leaving their son alone in the woods for a few minutes as a punishment for misbehaving during a family drive, Ana and Mateo embark on a desperate search to find him. This award-winning psychological drama about parenthood and marriage marks the eighth film by pioneering director of Chilean independent cinema Matías Bize. Shot in an astounding single take, The Punishment features a bravura performance by Antonia Zegers (El Conde).

Matías Bize is a graduate from the Escuela de Cine de Chile. At 23, he directed Saturday (2003), which won the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Prize at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival. He then directed In Bed (2005) and became the youngest filmmaker to win the Golden Spike Award at the Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain. In Bed received more than 40 international awards and was exhibited commercially worldwide. He has also directed About Crying (2007), The Life of Fish (2010), and Private Messages (2021).
