To deepen your experience with the art on view, the MFAH offers a wide range of lectures, conversations, tours, musical performances, readings, symposia, documentary films, festivals, art-making workshops, and wellness programs throughout the year. Public programs are free with Museum admission, unless otherwise noted. 

Tours

Drop-in Tours

Explore the galleries through a variety of docent-led guided tours: Drop-In Tours, Artwork of the Month, and quick Art Bites—each designed to spark conversation and insight.

Group Tours

The MFAH welcomes groups to experience the Museum’s collections and exhibitions. Discounts for self-guided group visits and docent-guided group tours are available by reservation with the purchase of 10 or more tickets through the group sales office.

 
 

Lectures, Conversations, and Musical Performances

The Museum offers a wide range of lectures, conversations, and musical performances throughout the year. These programs creatively interpret the art on view in the special exhibitions and permanent collections.

Participatory Programs and Celebrations

The MFAH presents multiple activations on campus throughout the year for all generations of visitors.
 
Fall and Winter Cultural Festivals, presented by H-E-B, provide Houstonians the opportunity to enjoy outdoor performances, hands-on artmaking, and food, as well as scavenger hunts to experience art inside the Museum. 
 
Lotería Nights, presented by H-E-B, bring this traditional Mexican game to the Museum, with cards inspired by artworks in the MFAH collections. 
 
Fashion Fusion, a vibrant collaboration between Houston City College and the MFAH, challenges fashion design students at HCC to create original garments inspired by art at the Museum. This annual competition concludes with a professional runway show at the MFAH, with prizes for the winning designers.

Workshops and group art-making activities at the MFAH offer hands-on learning experiences for adults and families. For a lively, collaborative art experience with a focus on creating community, drop in for Art Encounters, where area artists lead you in experimenting with different materials.

Wellness Programs

On selected Sunday mornings, instructors from FitMix Communities lead bilingual Yoga and Zumba sessions (English and Spanish) in the Cullen Sculpture Garden. Every fourth Sunday morning of the month, visitors can experience guided meditation led by the Black Man Project and the Black Woman Project on the PNC Roof Garden at the Glassell School of Art.
