Questioning the Line traces the evolution of the career of German-born Venezuelan artist Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt), from a series of early drawings, prints, and sculptures of the late 1950s to her distinctive wire constructions—“drawings without paper”—in the late 1970s and 1980s. The centerpiece of the show, the first major solo exhibition of Gego’s work in the United States, is Reticulárea.

Gego (1912–1994) produced an exquisite body of unconventional work. About 130 drawings, prints, sculptural constructions, and environmental pieces by Gego are on view, selected from the major 2001 retrospective of the artist's work organized at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas. After the run at the MFAH, Questioning the Line begins an international tour through Mexico and Colombia.
