Peter Bradley (born 1940) worked at the center of elite art circles in the 1960s and 1970s as an associate director at New York’s Perls Galleries. A noted member of the Color Field avant-garde, Bradley built his paintings upon nuanced chromatic harmonies. In 1971, at the invitation of John and Dominique de Menil, Bradley curated The De Luxe Show, one of the first racially integrated exhibitions of contemporary art in the United States. Opening in August of that year at the De LUXE Theater in Houston’s Fifth Ward, the exhibition presented both internationally recognized and emerging artists, promoting abstraction and crossing racial lines in an era defined by sweeping social upheaval.
