Three Questions for Christopher Rothko
Nov 4, 2015 - This group of works has a closer connection to my father. 2. Does Houston offer a special context for your father’s work? I think of Houston as maybe the central Rothko city. What all that adds up to—or maybe what I should say it all comes from—is that connection I feel to this work. Something continually moves me in my father's painting. I talked with Christopher Rothko about the work of his father, the subject of his new book Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out, published this autumn by Yale University Press. 1.

Lions, Tigers, and . . . Llamas? Exploring the Ancient American Cosmos
Dec 5, 2014 - Feather tunics like one on display in the exhibition (slideshow image #2)—treasured as more precious than gold—were invested with cosmological power. Instead of boy-band posters on my bedroom wall, I had pages torn from this magazine. The idea for the exhibition Fangs, Feathers, and Fins: Sacred Creatures in Ancient American Art began when I subscribed to International Wildlife as a teenager.

Making Holiday Magic, One Track at a Time
Dec 15, 2016 - While building the model, I often imagined what my granddaughter would enjoy most. At age 2, she finds trains of any size amazing and a treat almost beyond belief. See the model train set for yourself! When designing and creating the model, I kept in mind ease of disassembly for transport and storage. Four tables are joined to support the mountain, which I built in sections that can be fitted around the 12-foot Christmas tree at the center of the Spiegeltent.
