(India, 2021, Digital, in Hindi with English subtitles)

Investigative journalists from a newspaper run by women in rural northern India transition from print to digital, filming stories on smartphones and using their YouTube channel as a platform. Despite persistent gender bias and frequent threats, they remain determined to report the truth.

Writing with Fire is among the 15 films (narrowed down from 138) shortlisted in the Documentary Feature category for the 2022 Academy Awards. The final 10 films nominated in this category are announced February 8, and the Oscars ceremony is scheduled for March 27.
