Set in Kiryat Yam—a poor, sleepy city on the north coast of Israel—Virgins follows 15-year-old Lana (Joy Rieger), who wants to run away from the boredom of small-town life and her mother’s beach café. When a rumor spreads across town about a mermaid in the sea, Lana finds it hard to believe that the tale is responsible for waking up her town and turning it into a tourist attraction. Soon, however, everyone is living life to the fullest.
