Presented in conjunction with "Habsburg Splendor: Masterpieces from Vienna's Imperial Collections"

Often listed among the greatest movies of all time, director Carol Reed’s film noir set in post-World War II Vienna is a moody, atmospheric triumph filled with magnificent performances. The Third Man stars Joseph Cotten as pulp-fiction writer Holly Martins, who smells something suspicious in the supposedly accidental death of his friend Harry Lime (the legendary Orson Welles). Tensions rise as secrets are revealed and Lime’s girlfriend, Anna (Alida Valli), becomes involved. Novelist Graham Greene wrote the screenplay, which Roger Ebert said “most completely embodies the romance of going to the movies.” This year marks the centennial of Welles's birth in 1915. Restored in 4K by Deluxe, England, on behalf of Studiocanal, from a fine-grain master positive struck from the original negative. A 2015 Cannes Classics Selection.
