In this captivating melodrama, Marga López stars as a taxi dancer in Mexico City’s famous Salón México cabaret, selling her services in order to support her sister’s expensive education. This selfless mission is thwarted when she gets caught up in a dangerous love triangle with her violent pimp (Rodolfo Acosta) and a sympathetic police officer (Miguel Inclán). Director El Indio Fernández infuses the story with faith and patriotism against a backdrop of civilization’s evils. He descends into the night club’s underworld to explore his beloved themes of sacrifice and love. Cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa’s film noir-style photography poignantly captures the Social realist milieu.
