Kelly Reichardt’s darkly funny debut feature—screening in a new digital restoration—is set in southern Florida, where she grew up with a detective father and narcotics-agent mother. Shot on 16mm, the story follows the misadventures of disaffected housewife Cozy (Lisa Bowman) and aimless layabout Lee (Larry Fessenden, also producer and editor of this film).
"[In terms of its] funky tenor and deadpan humor . . . the film is a wry, appealingly raggedy look at the impossibility of conjuring up excitement from boredom.” —Slant magazine
