Pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful backdrop of Rienzi’s Camellia Garden for an outdoor movie screening of Jane Austen’s Persuasion (1995).

Seven years after Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) was persuaded to break her engagement to young seaman Frederick Wentworth (Ciarán Hinds), he returns. Will the romance be rekindled? Now a wealthy captain, he finds Anne’s family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant at the Elliot estate.

Rienzi is kicking off the “Summer of Jane Austen” in partnership with MFAH Films, Brazos Bookstore, and Rice Cinema. Before the film, stroll the galleries and explore Rienzi’s collection of European decorative arts, paintings, furnishings, porcelain, and miniatures. Snap a picture in the carriage photo booth, and meet our friends from the Regency Society of Houston.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the film starts at 8:45 p.m. Refreshments are available for purchase. Please note that outside alcohol, glass containers, tables, and chairs are not permitted.
