Artists in Dialogue: Joy Priest and Andrew I. Wilson Respond to Afro-Atlantic Histories
During this special evening of poetry, video, and art-making, poet Joy Priest and artist Andrew I. Wilson share their work in dialogue with the objects on display in the powerful exhibition Afro-Atlantic Histories. This event takes place in Cullinan Hall, on the first floor of the Law Building. Admission is free.

About the Presenters
Joy Priest is a doctoral student at the University of Houston. For Afro-Atlantic Histories, she has written the poem “Redemption,” after Charles Burnett’s film Killer of Sheep. Her book Horsepower was selected by former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey as the winner of the Donald Hall Prize for Poetry.
Andrew I. Wilson is a resident in the 2021–2022 Galveston Artist Residency, which culminates in a summer exhibition. He is a multimedia artist whose work in the intersections of ritual and funerary rights honors the deceased, examining the ways objects accumulate spirit particles and open portals to different dimensions.
