Opening Lecture “Francis Bacon: Being and Nothingness”
Presented by Alison de Lima Greene, the Isabel Brown Wilson Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art
Born in 1909, Francis Bacon came of age in the maelstrom of two world wars. His paintings reflect the existential crisis faced by many of his generation, and more than any artist of his time, he found in the human form a vessel for beauty and tragedy.
On the opening day of Francis Bacon: Late Paintings, this look at the exhibition introduces Bacon’s work through a historical lens and dives into the key themes that dominate his late paintings.
