Mediterranean Fever

Houston Palestine Film Festival

In her second feature, set in Haifa, Maha Haj creates a genre mash-up of a buddy comedy and a crime story. Family man Waleed dreams of being a successful novelist but suffers from writer’s block. After becoming friendly with his jovial neighbor, his fortunes seem to shift. Mediterranean Fever was Palestine’s entry for Best International Feature at the 2023 Academy Awards.

“A sly, charming story of friendship and personal crisis told with a melancholic wit reminiscent of The Sopranos.” —Chicago Palestine Film Festival
