This sprawling epic covers two generations in the family of wealthy Texas cattle baron Bick Benedict (Rock Hudson), who is married to the strong-willed Leslie (Elizabeth Taylor). Based on the Edna Ferber novel, Giant explores the problems the couple faces adjusting to life together, as well as the politics and prejudice of the time. James Dean—in his final film performance—plays resentful ranch hand Jett. Secretly in love with Leslie, Jett winds up striking oil on his own. Carroll Baker and Dennis Hopper also star.
