Gallery Concert: Da Camera Young Artists Celebrate the Straus Collection of Renaissance Art & “Beethoven for All”
This gallery concert by Da Camera Houston Young Artists explores the tremendous evolution of music during the Baroque and Classical periods of the 17th to 19th century.
In celebration of the Edith and Percy Straus Collection—an exceptional group of Renaissance-era art highlighted in the exhibition Passion for Perfection—the concert begins with Lute Suite in E Minor, BWV 996, a Baroque masterwork by Johann Sebastian Bach, and concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13 in B Flat Major, Op. 130, a Classical-period work from the last years of the great composer’s life.
During the 2017–18 season, Da Camera Houston celebrates its 30th anniversary with “Beethoven for All,” a series in which Da Camera Young Artists and guest ensembles perform all 16 of Beethoven’s string quartets. The free performances take place in a variety of venues, from concert halls to schools, hospitals, and cultural venues, including the MFAH.
Participating performers for this evening are Kyle Comer, guitar; Giancarlo Latta, violin; Annamarie Reader, cello; Jacob Schafer, violin; and Sergein Yap, viola.
Drop in! This program is free. General admission is free every Thursday, courtesy of Shell.
