The biographical drama Doutor Gama chronicles the life of Luís Gama (1820–1882), one of the most important abolitionists in Brazilian history. Enslaved as a child, Gama (played by César Mello) became a respected journalist, poet, and judge. This screening follows the film’s U.S. premiere at the American Black Film Festival. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Afro-Atlantic Histories.
