Introduced by Ryan N. Dennis, curator & programs director, Project Row Houses

Spike Lee’s comic seventh feature, inspired by his own upbringing, follows a teacher (Alfre Woodard), her stubborn jazz-musician husband (Delroy Lindo), and their five kids in a close-knit Brooklyn neighborhood. Life’s inevitable challenges are lifted up through an exceptional soundtrack by Terence Blanchard, punctuated with songs from James Brown, the Jackson 5, Curtis Mayfield, Sly and the Family Stone, the Stylistics, and Stevie Wonder.
