Concert | Riyaaz Qawwali

April 22, 2023

Renowned Houston-based music ensemble Riyaaz Qawwali presents this debut concert of songs inspired by art on view in the new galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds. Qawwali, a mesmerizing form of Islamic mystical music, has been captivating audiences in South Asia and beyond for more than 700 years. This music weaves together unique rhythms, melodies, and poetry reflecting the diverse religions present in South Asia. Hailing from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, the musicians celebrate their linguistic, religious, and cultural backgrounds while remaining true to the Sufi roots of qawwali and promoting a universal message of oneness that transcends religious and political boundaries.

After the concert, stay for a reception in celebration of Eid.
