Presented by Haji Noor Deen, master calligrapher 

Haji Noor Deen, also known as Mi Guang Jiang, is a renowned master of Arabic calligraphy. In his work, he juxtaposes Arabic and Chinese languages to form a unique calligraphic style.

In this special Houston appearance, Haji Noor Deen creates new calligraphic compositions while discussing his artistic practice with the audience, assisted by a translator.

About the Artist
Born in Shangdong province, China, in 1963, Haji Noor Deen specializes in the Sini style of Islamic calligraphy, which originated in the Chinese Muslim tradition. In 2017 he received the Certificate of Arabic Calligraphy from Hasan Celebi Hoca in Istanbul. Haji Noor Deen has shared his calligraphic techniques at institutions including Cambridge University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley.
